Breakthroughs in New Energy Battery Technology and New Industry Trends

As a key support for the new energy industry, new energy batteries are in a stage of rapid development. Among numerous battery technologies, the development of power batteries is particularly noteworthy. Currently, ternary lithium and lithium iron phosphate batteries dominate the market. The energy density advantage of ternary lithium batteries is obvious, with some high nickel system products having an energy density exceeding 300Wh/kg, which can help the vehicle range exceed 1000km, but the risk of thermal runaway is relatively high. Lithium iron phosphate batteries rely on structural innovation, such as BYD blade batteries and CATL Kirin batteries, to improve volume utilization, reduce costs by 40%, and have better safety. However, their low-temperature performance needs to be strengthened. In 2023, lithium iron phosphate will account for over 60% of the global installed capacity of power batteries, and its market share will gradually expand.

To meet the growing market demand, battery technology is constantly evolving. In terms of energy density improvement, the commercialization process of solid-state batteries is accelerating. Toyota plans to mass produce them by 2027, and Qingtao Energy’s semi-solid batteries have been installed and applied; Silicon based negative electrodes have begun to replace graphite, and the silicon content of Tesla 4680 batteries has increased, resulting in an increase in energy density. Supercharging technology is also breaking through, with the popularization of 800V high-voltage platforms. Ningde Times Shenxing Battery achieves 4C fast charging and can replenish 400km of energy in 10 minutes. In terms of cost control and resource safety, sodium ion batteries are being mass-produced, and Ningde Times has launched a sodium lithium hybrid AB battery system. Honeycomb Energy Longscale Battery has achieved cobalt removal. Full lifecycle management is also highly valued, with BYD carrying out battery cascade utilization and Huayou Recycling improving lithium recovery rates.
